You are warmly invited to join us for our summer excursion.
11.00 Meet at St John's College Buttery for refreshments. Location Link.
11.30 Private view of the 18th Century Heberden Medicine Cabinet with Dr Adam Crowther, Dr Chris Duffin and Mika Hyman.
12.30 Walk through gardens to Cambridge University Library. Location Link.
1.00 Lunch at the Library tea-room
2.00 Tour with curator, Dr James Freeman
15.30 Disperse, tea and/or optional walk via Darwin College to the Corpus Clock.
We start with a private view the materia medica cabinet of William Heberden (1710-1801), Fellow of St John's College who used the cabinet to illustrate his medical lectures.
We will then have lunch together in the Library’s excellent tea-room before visiting this unique exhibition, the outcome of a Wellcome-funded research project to digitise, catalogue and conserve 180 of Cambridge’s medieval medical manuscripts, containing more than 8,000 medical recipes.
Cost: Free (a suggested donation of £10 to the library); Lunch at own expense.
